MARYAM — PORTRAIT SESSION
Life doesn’t always pause for the important things. Sometimes you decide they matter anyway, and you show up.
That’s what Maryam did. There’s a lot happening in her world right now, and without going into it, this hasn’t been an easy stretch. She booked this anyway. At 34 weeks, in the middle of all of it, she made the time.
We shot some photos outside as the sun set, the last of the autumn light coming through the trees, everything turning gold and soft around her.

The studio section was for something quieter. Low light, deep shadow, the kind of frames where you’re not really looking at the room or the dress, you’re looking at her. Still. Held.
She wasn’t there to perform for the camera. She was there to stand still inside one of the strangest, fullest seasons of her life and let it be something other than stressful for an hour or two.
When I sent the gallery through, she wrote back that they were gorgeous. She was glad she did it. I knew she would be.
These are the photos you make for yourself, in the season you least expect to.
When I sent the gallery through, she wrote back: “I’m so happy we made it work, I really do love the photos.”
She was glad she did it. I knew she would be.
These are the photos you make for yourself, in the season you least expect to.
